Gia Carangi

Show of hands, how many people had heard of her before "Gia" the movie? Heh. Not surprised, Gia Carangi the supermodel lived a painfully bright and brief life, dying at the age of 26 from AIDS. That's right kids, not all drug users pop into Cedar Sinai and come out with healthy tans and beautiful glows.

If you haven't seen Gia click on your illegal Utorrent seeds now cos it's a good show. A sad show, but looking at a persons life as only sad is kind of like taking a black and white photo of a monochrome wall. Flat and probably not the whole picture. Well, unless you were like Hitler or...I don't know Judas. Then you pretty much blew it asshole.

If you ignore the words that come out of Janice Dickinsons mouth -which is what I usually do, even though I'm sure she's a very nice lady and all- then Gia would have been one of -if not the- first Supermodels in the world. This was back in the 70's and 80's.

Gia's really hauntingly beautiful, although that probably transcends her pictures because if you did that much drugs, you were haunted.

Gia was a HUGE fan of David Bowie. Hey, girls got taste.

She especially related to Bowie's High-Glam style, open bisexuality and gender ambiguity.
Cos she was bisexual herself la.

In the winter of 1982 Gia shot her last cover, a favor granted by photographer and friend Scavullo, because no one in the fashion world wanted to touch her.

"On November 18, 1986 at 10 a.m., Carangi died of AIDS-related complications. She was 26 years old. Her closed-casket funeral (recommended by the funeral director due to the ravages of AIDS) was held on November 21 at a small funeral home in Philadelphia. Nobody from the fashion world attended. However, weeks later, Scavullo sent a Mass card when he heard the news."
