Looks to steal from the boys

Here we have 10 trends we can steal from Spring 2011’s Menswear! Oh and besides stealing a few looks from the guys, there’s also no harm at all in checking out the male models. None whatsoevah! :)
Looking at the top 10 trends for the guys, we’ve decided to include a few girl looks we think are good inspirations/representations of the looks. Of course it won’t be exactly what you see from the catwalks, but these are just what we think are good/similar substitutes. :)

#1 Neon
boys-01
One of my favourite looks! There’s absolutely nothing I love more than bright happy colours! And when they come in bright, almost-painful-to-the-eyes neon all the better!
"What I want is to create a tension, a certain friction or electricity, and show something you wouldn't expect in that environment," Raf Simons for Jill Sander.
And you gotta admit, this was definitely a bold step and such an awesome one at that!
girls-01
L – R: Bright plaid, Sequined Seafoam, Happy Rings, Magenta Mini, Sky Blue Maxi.
If you’re not afraid to be bold, then by all means wear shirts, dresses and skirts that are bright and happy in colour. Otherwise, you can always go modest with just a little fluorescent on your fingers. :)

#2 Alterna-Tuxboys-02
Here we have the typical tux, known for it’s rigid and classic form. Now with a twist with shorts tuxedos and reversible cashmere. This just shows that even in formalwear, rules are meant to be broken. After all, fashion is all about experimenting and testing boundaries. What better way to do it than with something so strict and formal like a tux.
 girls-02
L – R: ASOS Check Dress, ASOS Silk Blazer, Corporate Cover Up, ASOS Tailored Blazer, F21 Pleated Dress.
Because most of us don’t really wear tuxedos to work, here are a few less formal versions. 2 in 1 dresses are the way to go, they are definitely a different take from a 3 piece suit skirt. Or if that’s a tad too formal for you, you can just choose to add a blazer over your outfit and you’re good to go. :)

#3 Splatter
boys-10
Splatter. It’s not quite floral. Not quite a print. It’s just a paintball of colours that somehow came together and looked good! Whether it’s on your shirt, on your pants on bags, it’s definitely a one-of-a-kind, you’ll-never-know-what-you’re-gonna-get look! After all, surprise is the spice of life? And so is variety. :)girls-10
L – R: Miranda Maxi, F21 Floral Artwork Dress, F21 Cutout Dress, F21 Tie Dye Maxi, ASOS Butterfly Purse.
Splatters are actually really easy to work into your outfit. It doesn’t have to bold, right out random splatters. It can also be tie-dye, a few inkdrops of colour or just pretty patterns that look painted together.

#4 White
boys-09
White. Classic, classic white. What with this being a totally resort trend, how can they not have white! White is a must have for all resort looks! It’s clean, it’s spotless and it just plain makes sense to wear white out by the pool! Must be the mixture of sun, sea and sand that makes white stand out so. girls-09
L – R: Sexy Chiffon Neck Vest, White Sequined Dress, Rose Hairband, Sexy Skin Tight Mini Dress, Good ol’ Maxi.
White is everywhere. Whether you just want a simple top, a shiny white dress, a pretty white rose in your hair. There are so many ways to work white into an outfit. White will instantly brighten up any outfit! And if you’re looking to go all white, all the better! And what better way to do it than to slip on a white cotton maxi. :)

#5 Print Suits
boys-08
Prints are dead. Just in case you were worried. :) And most of all, allover-print suit seems to be the latest fashion fad. An allover-print suit is definitely not one for the faint hearted. It takes a certain amount of courage and boldness to pull of such a strong look. girls-08
L – R: Pretty Bluebells, Black Mini, Summer Organza Dress, Geometric Printed Gypsy Skirt, Yummy Chocolate Dress.
And because not many of us would wear printed suits out, here are a few options that might help instead. Printed dress and printed skirts, be it floral, checked, polka dots or stripes. Pairing prints up with a simple look will instantly draw the right kind of attention to you. Your prints don’t have to be too bold or over-the-top, simple little prints work just as well too. :)

#6 Wide & Long
boys-03
Skinny Jeans! We all have them. Though they are lovely, it is time to take a break from the skin tights and pull on something long, loose and comfy. After all, no one wants to be the person wearing skin tight jeans to a pool party. Wide and long is the new skinny! girls-03
L – R: ASOS Ditsy Jumpsuit, ASOS Flare Trousers, Lace Jumpsuit, F21 Ruffle Trimmed Maxi, F21 Strapless Jumpsuit.
Long work trousers are not the only way you can introduce wide and long into your wardrobe. You can do it by getting a comfy pair of long jumpsuit (printed or un-printed it’s up to you) and even maxi dresses! Yes, you heard me! Maxi dresses are definitely a wide and long look that can be easily incorporated to this latest fashion trend.

#7 Camp Shirts
boys-07
Not too sure how many of you actually camp, but I sure don’t! But that don’t mean I can’t get dressed up for the occasion! Or rather, I’d prefer to just dress up without the camping. :) This outing inspired piece is surprisingly versatile with it’s multi-pockets! From grey tones to green military cuts, suiting up for the great outdoors never looked this… great! girls-07
L – R: Star Studded Boxy Shirt, ASOS Swing Mac, Hole Punched Shoulder Shirt,BF21 Bold Woven Shirt, Simple Shirt.
Finally one look that we can actually take from the men and wear it out as it is! So here’s your chance to head on over to your brother’s/BF’s closet and steal some of their shirts! They might be a tad on the larger side, but that don’t mean you can wear it over a top or a maxi dress for a whole new look. Plus, it’s always so much more fun to raid other people’s closets, don’t you think? ;)

#8 Stripes
boys-06
Sigh. Stripes. I love stripes. I love all kinds of stripes. My BFF tells me I need to move on from stripes. But how can I when there are so many of them to love! With stripes you don’t necessarily have to go all out and wear them as a shirt. You can just have them on your sleeves, a few lines across your shirt, or even as pants! I love stripes. Really, I do.girls-06
L – R: Sailor Stripe Loose Top, Miss Sixty Stripe Batwing Dress, Tiered Maxi Skirt, F21 Striped Socks, F21 Summer Skirt.
Stripes are available in all shapes and thickness. Your typical sailor blue stripes, or a mix of thick and thin stripes. On your socks a few cleverly placed ones on your skirt. If you’re afraid that horizontal stripes will makes you look fat, there’s always the tiered colour option. It’s stripes, but not quite. ;)

#9 Cargo Pants
boys-04
Cargo pants have been around for ages. The only problem was that, they happened to usually be associated with not so fashionable carpenters. Now that the designers have taken them, glamed them up a little they are now the latest rough-and-ready to wear utility pants! After all, who doesn’t love a whole bunch of pockets. :)girls-04
L – R: Cargo Skirts, F21 Denim Skirt, F21 Cargo Pants, F21 Chic Structured Dress, F21 Drawstring Utility Shorts.
For us girls, we aren’t just limited to cargo pants or shorts, nowadays we have skirts and dresses as well! Ah, how nice to be a girl and have a myriad of choices! Though cargo skirts and dresses are not something we’ve seen a lot, but definitely something to look out for.

#10 Jute Shoes
boys-05
This I feel is something taken from us. Because jute-soled shoes are actually made famous from the braided style of classic European espadrilles. With the boys, it’s not like we can give them skyhigh wedges so instead what they get are simple leather sandals or oxford shoes with jute-soles.girls-05
L – R: F21 Tassel Moccasins, ASOS Slingback, Dolce Vita Wedge, See by Chloe Wedge Shoes, F21 Slouch Wedges
Well, seeing as how the origins of jute-soles are from espadrilles, I’m pretty sure I can leave it up to your imagination on how and what kind of shoes you’ll be picking out for the coming Spring. :) Wedges all the way! Or if you’re daring you can always head on over to the men’s department and pick out a leather sandal with jute soles. :)

So that’s all 10 looks to steal from the guys!
Have fun and happy raiding! :)
xoxo
