Hey guys!
If you haven’t already heard the 2nd instalment for New York Fashion Week for this year just ended, and as a result we will be doing a quick update on what to look out for in Spring 2011! Get your fashion notebooks ready with your pens poised to jot down some important style notes for next year’s latest trends!

What you’ll be expecting to see next Spring would be the colour White! As it seems to be a favourite among designers this Fashion Week. Along with an occasional pop of bright colours in some of the most unexpected combinations which brings an air of surprise to many collections. You will be seeing a lot of soft, flowy fabrics as well as elegant shoes & accessories!
So now that you’ve been informed, enough yammering and onto the photos!

Let’s do it alphabetically shall we. :) First up, Calvin Klein!
CALVIN KLEIN SS2011 NEW YORK 09/16/2010 CALVIN KLEIN SS2011 NEW YORK 09/16/2010
Calvin Klein known for his sleek lines and minimalistic designs brought us a line up that is positively chic. Boxy suits and simple lines are what this collection is about.

Carolina Herrera 01 Carolina Herrera But the real story here was the dresses, from short, brightly colored silk cocktail looks to long, elegant gowns.Carolina Herrera 02 Carolina Herrera Carolina Herrera's runway emphasized dressing up and served as a reminder of how a lady dresses.
Carolina Herrera never disappoints. As a scion of elegance herself, you know her collection will be fab! What you will be seeing from her collection are dresses and pieces with Asian influences, such as origami folds and obi belts. Besides, Asian influences she also toyed with florals, from small prints all the way to bold blown up ones. I am so loving the black dress and the orange skirt with the giant flower!

From bright bold clashing colours to simple black dresses to mad prints. You know Diane von Furstenberg did good in this collection with her variety of pieces! And if you haven’t already heard, this collection she teamed up with her new creative director Yvan Mispelaere and came up spring’s inspiration of “goddess”. And we don’t mean the Grecian kind, but instead the kind where women who can do everything and is at the top of her game! Kinda like DVF herself.

Donna Karan 01 Donna Karan specializes in easy clothes, the sort that hang perfectly — loosely, but never sloppily, even when done in her version of the season's pantsuit. Donna Karan The lineup was dress- and skirt-heavy, with equal options for day and evening, and plenty that could straddle both with a change of shoe and bag. Donna Karan
Donna Karan specialises in easy clothes. The kind that hangs perfectly, loose yes, but never ever in a sloppy way. With this collection, she found inspiration in earth. Doing up her collection in a simple palette of tan, beige, sand and bone. Pretty much a nude collection. Something a little different, but I would say it definitely paid off! The colours and the cut look absolutely stunning! I love how sexy nude is. It’s like you’re wearing something, but you’re wearing nothing!

MARC BY MARC JACOBS SS2011 NEW YORK 09/14/2010 MARC BY MARC JACOBS SS2011 NEW YORK 09/14/2010 MARC BY MARC JACOBS SS2011 NEW YORK 09/14/2010 MARC BY MARC JACOBS SS2011 NEW YORK 09/14/2010
Marc by Marc Jacobs. Personally, I am so in love with this collection! I think it’s because the stripes and colours totally call out to me. I love how 70’s this collection is and how he dabbled with beach-side motifs, long skirts, stripes, cinched waist, pretty printed frocks and lots of loose shapes! I really like loose outfits! I don’t know why! Especially those that are cinch at the waist and then flare out like that striped skirt. I want it!

As usual, Marc Jacobs rarely fits into a neat little category when it comes to trends. Well, that could be because he’s usually setting them! And set them he did! As you can see from the above collection, he is bringing in the colours for Spring 2011 with lots of bright vibrant pinks, purple, orange, gold and so on an so forth. For textures, he played with silk, beaded crochets, ruffle peasant blouses, knit sweaters and as well floor length skirts.

MICHAEL KORS SS2011 NEW YORK 09/15/2010 MICHAEL KORS SS2011 NEW YORK 09/15/2010 MICHAEL KORS SS2011 NEW YORK 09/15/2010 MICHAEL KORS SS2011 NEW YORK 09/15/2010 NARCISSO RODRIGUEZ SS2011 NEW YORK 09/14/2010 MICHAEL KORS SS2011 NEW YORK 09/15/2010
From bright bold Marc Jacobs we move on to simple classic shapes of Michael Kors. If bright and bold aren’t your scene, then Michael Kors’ laid-back, casual and plenty of white collection is something that you will definitely love. The clean simple lines, the soft flowy textures. It’s all about luxe fluidity. And just to get out of the white theme, he punctuated it with a pop of neon pink with this beautiful flowy off-shouldered dress. Can you tell I’m so in love with the pink? :)

Oscar de la Renta. Gosh, how I love his collection. From a dark navy belted frock with a sculpted bodice, to a simple nude peachy top paired with a cream floral skirt, to a gorgeous printed fitted waist dress with a full skirt.

RALPH LAUREN SS2011 NEW YORK 09/16/2010 RALPH LAUREN SS2011 NEW YORK 09/16/2010 RALPH LAUREN SS2011 NEW YORK 09/16/2010
Ralph Lauren sticking with a very pale palette adorned with plenty of fringe and lace details. By adding a few Eastern ideas with simple silhouettes and delicate lace with beads, he definitely stood out amongst the rest. Aside from that, there were also skinny leather pants, white blouses and simple shirt dresses. And for the red carpet, there were heaps of floor-length gowns in sexy slinky and flowy material.

Vera Wang has gotta be one of my favourite designers. I love how her collections are always dark and romantic with a hint of masculine beauty. With her latest Spring collection, it indeed had all her artistic hallmarks. Personally, I am totally loving the cherry blossom print dress, and the sheer blouse tucked into a vibrant red draped pencil skirt! For this collection, Vera Wang pretty much draped, ruched, hitched and swathed nearly every look! I love how she paired her sleeveless top with a bold necklace!

And these are just a few of the designers whose items graced the catwalks of New York Fashion Week!

So in a nut shell, here are a few key trends for Spring 2011!
1. White/Nude pieces (Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Ralph Lauren)
2. Bold florals (Carolina Herrera, Vera Wang)
3. Full skirts (Marc by Marc Jacobs, Oscar de la Renta)
4. Loose draped pieces (Calvin Klein, Diane von Furstenberg, Michael Kors, Vera Wang)
5. Floor length skirts/dresses (Carolina Herrera, Donna Karan, Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren, Vera Wang)

Are you guys ready for Spring yet? :)

Till next time!
xoxo
WN.
