Nude tones are all the rage this season! And I am loving it! From soft flesh-tones to deep earthy neutrals. So better start looking into your closet if you might have any hidden nude colours! Because nude tones are considered neutral colours, they go well with pretty much everything! From the basic black and whites, to the deep burgundies and the lovely bright pop colours of pink, mint and blue.
Well, now how exactly would one go about wearing nude colours without looking… well, nude.
Firstly, pay attention the fabrics. Try not to pick items that are too tight as a body hugging silhouette that looks like another layer of skin is not the most attractive. Pick instead those that drape and float away from the body.
As seen above from Jill Stuart. Lovely soft flowy frocks, the one on the right in a deeper more flesh tone nude, while the left a lighter almost translucent white.
Christian Dior pairs up a white fitted gown under a sheer nude flowy overlay.
Next up of course, are nude maxis.
Not only are they heaps flattering, they are also incredibly versatile. Maxis are definitely a staple that is a huge must have in every fashionista’s closet. I mean come on, you’ve got the little black dress already, so obviously you need something floor length to counter it!
Remember this beautiful nude dress by Atelier Versace that Demi Moore wore for Oscars?
Or Beyonce at the Grammys. Am so loving how her the dress totally accentuates her curves!
L – R: Porcelain skinned Bonnie Wright in a beautiful champagne satin gown by Prada (hey, you don’t have to be tanned to wear nudes!); Drew Barrymore in a single shouldered diamond dress by Atelier Versace; Kate Hudson in a sexy thigh high slit, off shouldered gown by Stella McCartney.
And from the red carpet we have…
Beautiful flowy gowns by Bruno Pieters. A modest crisscrossed one on the right, and a sexy slitted up to the thigh single shoulder gown, both in a soft salmon pink.
And of course, a lovely tube number with ruffles and a flowy train from none other than Valentino. Sigh, don’t you find that the nude maxis just makes the entire look so romantic and fairytale like.
Now that we’ve done long floor length maxis, how about something short and nude. :)
Well, I guess we could call this the Little Nude Dress? :) I am starting to wonder, besides black, white and nude what other Little Dresses can we possibly have? Little Pink Dress? Nah, don’t think that is quite as versatile as a black, white, nude dress. What’d you guys think? :)
L – R: Cheryl Cole in a sexy figure hugging tube dress with slim metallic horizontal lines; Emilie de Ravin in another tube dress with a structured bow; Eva Longoria in her Little Nude Dress; Model Alice Dellal in an incredibly sexy plunging neckline mini mini mini dress!
Pictured above are a few mini oatmeal draped dress by Bruno Pieters. Am loving how the 2 on the left are figure hugging and girly while the one on the right is such a mod deconstructed look. Can’t quite decide which I like better!
And over here, we have none other than Giorgio Armani Prive in 2 natural peach pieces. The one on the left, a silk one shoulder above the knee dress with structured ruffle detailing, while the one on the right in a tube dress with a lantern skirt adorned with stiff ruffles. If you’ve seen our posts Cannes Countdown and this year’s Oscars, you’ll see 2 ethereal iridescent coloured dress, worn by Kate Beckinsale and Jennifer Lopez. Simply breathtaking.
Here we have a beige almost white simple spaghetti strap tiered ruffle dress and a sheer thigh high organza covering over a corset/girdle/innerwear as outerwear/tube swimsuit both by Jasper Conran.
Lastly in the Little Nude dress, we have none other than Marchesa. A dress with nude shimmery leaves detailing at the top that slowly flutters down to a simple thigh high cut pencil skirt adorned with a bow in the middle. For some reason, the falling leaves and bow placement in the middle reminds me a little of those arcs that we see in movies for wedding, where the bride and groom stand underneath as the priest reads out their vows. Oh, and spot the silver Louboutin heels!!
Okay, last but definitely not least…
Nude with colours!! I absolutely love it! Especially if the colours are not just the usual staple of black and white but instead are the lovely bright fun bold hues of pink, red, blue, green, yellow, fluorescent… you get the idea. ;) So of course, if you’re afraid that the neutral earthen colours will wash you out too much, just add a bright bold colour and you’ll pop for sure!
Christian Dior! Sigh, I love the rich purple, yummy mandarin and not quite getting it mustard yellow. Yes, I will be honest, I am biased against mustard yellow, I so very rarely ever like it, and well… can pick another colour please? :D But will tell you this, the last photo of the model in the leather vest with nude long flowy skirt. LOVES!
On the left we have a soft flowy, skinny strap round neck nude dress that is dipped in a beautiful shade of deep turquoise by Jill Stuart. Sigh. Why don’t I have nude duo tone dresses like that! Moving along, on the right we have a simple deep heart shaped neckline above the knee dress by Miu Miu. I like how the neckline is in a nice rich heart beat red, that cinches in the waist with a black band and then basically structures down to a nude metallic skirt.
Short and long flesh toned coloured dress with a hint of pastel fluorescence. If pastel can ever be fluorescent, I would say that Valentino just did it. Right here. Damn. The bright yellows, cherry pink, soft baby blue (usually not a fan of baby blue, but will make exception for this particular shade!) and lilac-lavender (okay, I know they are almost the same but don’t you think they sound good together?). Sigh, do I really need to explain why these dresses are a ‘I want, need, must have, right now!’.
And to say goodbye, here’s one last photo of a low cowl neck biscuit coloured jumpsuit/dress (can’t quite tell) with a bright fluttery colourful coat/really big scarf by none other than Valentino. :)
Will I ever own a creation by Valentino is what I wanna know!
xoxo WN.
