Good Deed Gone Bad

This is what happened to my lip balm after I gave it to my BF for a couple of weeks in the hopes that he might actually use it!

IMG_3173IMG_3174
This is known as lip balm massacre.

IMG_3175IMG_3176
See how weathered the outside has become! I wonder how many washes it went through!

IMG_3178IMG_3179
As you can see very clearly (or as clearly as these photos will allow), my lip balm is totally melted and stuck to the cap. My genius of a BF probably forgot all about it when he threw his clothes into the washer. The funny thing is how he always manages to remove his wallet, phone, keys and such but not my lip balm. Grrr. I think this is after a few washes.

IMG_3177
As such, I have taken away the lip balm from him (not that he’s complaining!), and now I don’t know what to do with it.
Should I…

1. Melt the lip balm and pour it back into the lip balm case
OR
2. Scoop out the lip balm that’s in the cap and make a scented lipstick colour

What’d ya guys think?
If picking option 2, please suggest a few lip colours for me. :)

Till next time!

Monday Blues

Because I so rarely ever keep my fingernails long, I always, always, always feel obliged to paint my nails up French style! Today, I wanted to do in the classic white French tip, the only sad part is that my OPI Alpine Snow is now all thick and goopy making it practically impossible to get a smooth application, let alone trying to French tip it!

In my sadness, I picked a substitute colour. Which is this medium tone sky blue. The colours that I put on underneath is OPI Heart Throb, just 1 layer, while the tip is China Glaze Bahamian Escape, about 2 layers.

Okay, before you view the pictures, please remember that I’m a very impatient sort of girl and I just don’t have the steady hand of a surgeon. So what you will see is a not very well done French tip. Or at least up-close. From a far, I am happy to say they look pretty darn decent! :D Pats self on back.

Sigh, check out the little chip on my pointer finger.

Personally, am not that big a fan of blue. But I must say that this shade of blue is really rather lovely. It’s a creamy smooth medium tone sky blue.

As for the application, I do rather like China Glaze’s brush and texture of the polish. It’s pretty consistent, goes on smoothly and if my technique was better, I’m sure that these French tips would look way better!

Today it’s blue. Tomorrow I might put another colour, just because I am just not a fan of blue! No offense to any blue fans out there! The colour just isn’t me!

So that’s it for this super short zip quick post!
Till next time!

Self Indulgent Super Syiok Sendiri Hair Post

So anyway, I’ve been meaning to get a hair trim for ages! Finally, on Sunday (21.11.10) me and Pop after doing a bunch of errands and eating a deliciously greedy meal at Bianco, we headed over to Salon de Elements at Damansara Uptown (same row as The Ship). Prices are decent and service is good. If you don’t got a lot of dough, but want a good do, here’s where you should go! Though, if you’ve got a little more dough and like really short do’s, I recommend Shawn Cutler at Bangsar Telawi (ask for Shawn, the owner) or Shawn Cutler at TTDI (ask for Jackham).

Moving along, Pop went to get her roots rebonded, while I initially just wanted a trim.

Heh. If you knew me back in secondary school and college, you’ll know that I’ve had many a bad haircuts. I’ve had a just below the ear horrid haircut, a totally boy cut and all sorts of foulness in between. I think the reason back then I had that many bad haircuts was probably because of the fact that I couldn’t tell the hairstylist that no, I do not like this haircut at all! But now I can! :)

So what started of as a simple trim actually turned out to be a cut that gave me a short-medium-ish bob and a whole head colour! :) Which I am pleased about. Not incredibly pleased, but pleased enough.

As you can see, this is how my hair currently looks like! :)
DSC_0260DSC_0263
As I mentioned, it was originally supposed to be just a little trim, however after the trim I felt that there just wasn’t enough difference to my hair (yes, I know that’s what a trim is supposed to be!), so I told the stylist to cut it a little shorter. Which he did, and since I mentioned to him earlier that I was planning on growing my hair long, he said that this cut will look good once my hair grows out. Sadly for him and me, I am a MAJOR instant gratification kinda person, so while the cut will look good one my hair grows out, I just didn’t like how it looked at the moment, so I told him to cut it all off and give me a bob like do.

The reason I said that I was only pleased and not incredibly pleased about this haircut, is simply the fact that after going to Shawn Cutler and getting them to somehow cut and style my uber fine hair into a style that looks decently full head of hair, this haircut just doesn’t quite cut it anymore. This is the second time I am getting a cut at Salon de Elements. The first time I cut my hair there I was pretty satisfied with what they did, but this time around, the haircut itself is alright, but nothing too great and it definitely doesn’t make my uber fine hair look fuller. Could be because I used a different stylist this time around, and my previous one was busy attending to someone else. Boohoo to me.

Moving along.

The colour is actually not as red as how it looks on camera, it actually has some purple in it, but my camera just can’t seem to capture the purple. Also, it isn’t as light as it looks either, it’s a tad darker, not a lot darker, but just a teeny tiny little bit. :)

And that’s all for now. In the upcoming posts on Peep, you’ll be seeing more of me with my red hair! Which sadly, will only last a couple of weeks because red hair colour is the one that fades the fastest. Boohoo. Off to get myself a nice bottle of shampoo & conditioner just for coloured hair!

Till next time!

Peaches & apples

Alright, so I know I’ve been completely slacker and lazy on the updates lately, it’s only because I’ve just got 5 seasons of Criminal Minds! Yes, I’m officially a Criminal Minds addict! It used to be CSI, now it is Criminal Minds.
If you haven’t already watched the show, I suggest you do! It’s awesome!

Moving along, here I have 2 lipbalms which I actually opened ages ago and just have been putting off reviewing them. Personally, these 2 are definitely one of my favourites. :)

First up, Apple Smoothie.
apple smoothie (1) apple smoothie (2)
Though the description of this balm doesn’t sound like much, but holding it in my hand, placing it against my nose and taking a quick whiff of this balm has made me wanna open it immediately! The scent is so deliciously sweet!
apple smoothie (3)
This balm has the perfect blend of juicy red apples, all cut up, juiced and blended with a thick, rich, creamy vanilla milk. The combination is effortless and oh-so-tasty. If you love apples and if you love smoothies, you’re sure to love this balm! In fact, I don’t know what it is about this balm but the mix of apples and vanilla milk is simply perfect together.
Red_apple_by_NineWhileNine shake
Just imagine a bowl full of delicious, juicy and crunchy red apples, cut up and blended with the richest and creamiest vanilla milk you can imagine. That is exactly what this balm is like, perfectly fruity and creamy! It’s so tasty it’s practically sinful!
A must have!

Next on the list, Peach Belini.
peach bellini (2) peach bellini (3)
To be honest, peaches are not my favourite fruit. So when Cynthia recommended this I was a tad bit skeptical. After all, I’ve never heard of Peach Belinis and I don’t like peaches.
What exactly is a Peach Belini?
It is basically a long drink cocktail that originated from Venice. It is a mixture of sparkling wine and peach puree.
The description doesn’t sound like much, but I can assure you, this balm is tasty!
peach bellini (4)
When I opened up this balm and took a quick whiff, it smells delicious! The scent and flavour of peaches aren’t too strong, which is something I am glad for! It has a slight hint of bubbly champagne and with the combination of peaches this balm has a sweet peachy scent and has a slight peachy champagne taste to it.

This balm is not creamy at all like Apple Smoothie, instead it’s got a very slight citrusy flavour to it and is all nice and bubbly! Though this balm has champagne in it, I won’t say it’s your typical booze balm as the booze note is quite mild.
ChampagnePOP-7842986a00e5519367618834010534d08c97970b-800wi
I guess the closest description I can give to you on how this balm is like, is from the above picture! It pops! It’s sweet! And it’s bubbly! Added with a juicy sweet peach, this balm is another must have for your collection!

And that’s all for now! I know I should get around to writing more, but I’ll do it soon once I finish my Criminal Minds marathon! I’m almost done guys!

Till next time!

A Guide to Beauty-Product Labels

What does the jargon on beauty-product packaging actually mean?
best-beauty
Let's face it. Some words are there to impress you; others mean more. But you don't need a decoder ring to understand the labels on skin, hair, and face products. Here, find an explanation of 13 confusing beauty terms.
    beauty-products-730472
Clinically Proven

What It Means: The manufacturer has conducted some testing of the product in a clinical setting, like a lab.
What It Doesn’t Mean: That anything significant has been "proven."
Best For: Someone willing to do her own digging, like researching independent data about ingredients.

Hypoallergenic

What It Means: The product has a low chance of causing allergies.
What It Doesn’t Mean: It has been tested for all allergies. "There's no way to prove it won't cause a reaction in some people," says Howard Murad, a Los Angeles dermatologist.
Best For: People with sensitive skin or a history of allergic reactions.

make_up-and-brushLong-Wearing

What It Means: Generally found on makeup packaging, this term refers to the product's staying power.
What It Doesn’t Mean: Waterproof. "Long-wearing" means it lasts longer under normal circumstances but still may not survive swimming or crying.
Best For: Times when you don't want to touch up your makeup.

Broad-Spectrum

What It Means: Found on sunscreens, it tells you the product protects against both ultraviolet A and B rays.
What It Doesn’t Mean: That you're fully covered. No matter what the label says, no sunscreen blocks out 100 percent of harmful rays. 6a00d83451586c69e2010536faf600970b-800wi
Best For: Everyone. Broad-spectrum is the best protection available.

Brightening

What It Means: The product contains temporary brighteners, like mica, or ingredients that help even out skin tone.
What It Doesn’t Mean: Lightening, a term regulated by the FDA. A cream can't claim it will "lighten" the skin or dark spots unless it contains the chemical hydroquinone.
Best For: People with mildly uneven skin tone.

Fragrance-Free

What It Means: The product has no noticeable smell and usually contains no added artificial or chemical fragrances.
What It Doesn’t Mean: It's totally free of added substances, like botanical extracts, that mask the smell of the basic ingredients.
Best For: Sensitive, allergy-prone skin.

nivea-Small-1-135019_LFirming

What It Means: Contains ingredients that help plump up skin for a fuller look.
What It Doesn’t Mean: Dramatic results. Chances are any "firming" effects you see will be subtle and not permanent.
Best For: Skin that lacks elasticity.

Lifting

What It Means: The product helps repair sagging skin, fine lines, and wrinkles.
What It Doesn’t Mean: Miracles. "The only thing that can really lift is the plastic surgeon," says Annet King, director of training for the International Dermal Institute.
Best For: Mature skin.
  j0289640
Detoxifying

What It Means: Helps skin look radiant by expelling toxins from cells.
What It Doesn’t Mean: Purification. It's hard to prove that products can eliminate whatever is actually "toxic" to skin.
Best For: Dull, oily, or acne-prone skins.

Noncomedogenic

What It Means: Contains no ingredients known to clog pores or cause acne.
What It Doesn’t Mean: It definitely won't cause a reaction or be irritating in other ways.
Best For: Those with acne-prone skin and anyone concerned with clogged pores.

Dermatologist-Tested

What It Means: A dermatologist tested the product.
What It Doesn’t Mean: It's approved and endorsed by a dermatologist. "The implication is that the dermatologist liked it, but you don't know that," says Murad.
Best For: People who don't necessarily need a doctor's approval.

beautyproductsRestructuring

What It Means: Found on hair-care labels, this word implies the product will restore hair to its natural structure — before it was damaged with styling and chemical treatments.
What It Doesn’t Mean: That you can permanently restructure hair. This is a temporary fix that will leave hair looking and feeling healthier.
Best For: Anyone who damages her hair on a regular basis with heat styling and coloring.

Oil-Free

What It Means: The product doesn't contain mineral oil, plant oils, or lanolin, which can clog pores and irritate skin.
What It Doesn’t Mean: That it won't cause a reaction. Be careful that something more irritating — like menthol, eucalyptus, or camphor — hasn't been substituted to help the product glide on easily.
Best For: People with oily skin who don't want to look shiny by lunchtime.

And that’s all! Hope that helped you guys in understanding product labels just that little bit more. :)
